Week 19: American Tobacco Trail

According to our What to Expect iPhone app, Ezra is the size of a mango.

This weekend we actually stayed in town. We took advantage of the break in hot weather and took a long walk on the American Tobacco Trail, a 20-mile railway easement turned walking trail that stretches from downtown Durham to Apex. It's one of the many projects of the Rails-to-Trails conservancy organization and a fantastic idea for communities, if we might add. There are tons of converted trails; if you check their website, you can find one just about anywhere in the U.S. of A.

Charlie saw horses for the first time and didn't really know what to do except growl (tough guy thought he could take them). Along the way we met a pug named Simon who a.) rode in a baby stroller and b.) screamed [yes, really] at Charlie, sounding a little too much like the Batman Pug. We firmly believe that a tired dog is a happy dog, and we can confirm that Charlie was dog tired.

Here are pictures from our Sunday afternoon stroll.

Next weekend, we're traveling back to Justin's hometown of Virginia Beach for the first time since Christmas where we'll catch up with family, show off the pregnant belly, and take a trip to the beach of course.

  1. Hi Jessica,

Very nice report on the ATT. Don't forget to mention that the website of the Triangle Rails-to-Trails Conservancy at www.triangletrails.org is the best place to find out more than you ever want to know about the American Tobacco Trail.

Folks can find the map that you show above - in high definition for printing no less - at our website as well.

The Rails to Trails Conservancy had absolutely nothing to do with, nor provided any funding for, the ATT. They did give us those "Network" signs, and then bugged me for weeks to get them up! ;-)

    Happy Trails,

    Bill Bussey
